I don't know if cause of death is given in army papers.  Perhaps someone else may be able to tell you that.

I did find a report of an administration application.

I found a couple of other things as well.  First one from London Gazette October 1945, not sure why it took over a year after his death to put that in.

If you can look at copies of the East African Standard for the time - it was the "settlers' newspaper" - there might be a nugget. I had a go looking for someone in the 1920s in the days of the Newspaper Library in north London. There is/was no indexing and they only held the Saturday editions; I came away without any progress. Might just be worth consulting the BL catalogue to see what's available and how (and when) you could view the papers. At least you have a very narrow range of dates to cover.

If he died whilst serving in the Army yes I would expect it to be recorded in his army papers. Someone with more knowledge than I have on Army matters might no more. I know my father’s army service records everything!
