William Healey 1939 Register Carmarthen
« on: Tuesday 06 April 21 22:35 BST (UK) »
I am trying to find some history for William Healey listed on the 1939 Register; XDCH Carmarthen 599-3 . 18 Blue Street, Carmarthen. At present, I know nothing about him, why he was living there, or where he originated. Finding answers may create a detour around my dead end.

Resident 9 of 9, William Healey, General Labourer, has been transcribed as being born 18 Feb 1868 or 1888. There has been a confusing amendment, so which year was he born? By 1939, that would make him 69 or 49 years old. In that quarter for England and Wales, there three births registered in 1868 and two in 1888. It says he is married, but no wife is listed at that address.

William Healey . mmn Gorman . Jan-Mar 1868 . Stockport . Volume 08a . Page 17
William Healey . mmn Vaughan . Jan-Mar 1868 . Dudley . Volume 06c . Page 107

William Ralph Healey . mmn Duncombe . Jan-Mar 1888 . Hemel Hempsted . Volume 03a . Page 604

I also found this one on FreeBMD:
Birth: William Reuben Healey . Jan-Mar 1888 . Pontypridd . Volume 11a . Page 466. Wanting to find the mmn, I checked the GRO and it was not offered, even when I used the quarter, year, volume and page. I believe I found him on a 1911 census in Maesteg. From the others, their mmn is Edwards.
Death: William R Healy . 73 (Est: 1889) . Jan-Mar 1962 . Carmarthen . Volume 8A . Page 285.

Having died in Carmarthen, there is a connection, but there could also be a link to Dudley, which is why I need to be sure.

William Ralph died 1965 Markyate, probate to widow May. They are in the same place on the 1939 Register.

William Reuben died Carmarthen 1962. probate to Thomas John Rowlands.
William Reuben married 1908 Neath to Hannah Rebecca Rowlands.
Looks like children 1909 & 1911, Hannah as Annie and boys with her family in 1911.

Are you descended from one of his children?    If so - the child's birth registration will enable you to find mothers maiden name which in turn will help to find the marriage.

The marriage cert should give his age and also his fathers name

It is looking more likely to be William Reuben, with the connection to Carmarthen.
From the Register, I cannot be sure if it is 1888 or 1868.

At present, he is not related. With mmn Edwards there could be a link and previous generations married Rowlands. It would not surprise me if a link was established.
There are a few blockages, so I am checking all people listed, hoping to find a different route.
Before I buy any certificate(s), the options need to be reduced.
Thanks Comberton, the information is pointing even more to William Reuben.
Where are his wife and children in 1939? I will look for her.
William in Stockport is out of the running.
I am now looking deeper into the Edwards family to see if there is a link, but a common name in Wales.

I have found the right William Healey.
With a little help, especially from Comberton, I know it is the right one because of his wife.
Hannah Rebecca Rowlands would be known to my family, with both having links to Laugharne and Frog Street. In the 1901 census, she and my great-grandmother were next-door-but-one neighbours.

Baptism: 23 March 1890 . Hannah Rebecca . Thomas and Anne Rowlands . Frog Street. Mariner.

I'm pleased you've identified the correct William. Still not found Hannah in 1939 so I've been looking at the children.
The boys were possibly in the military in 1939. Sadly the second son William John Healy b 1911 died in 1946. He is on the Find a Grave site as Pvt William John Healy buried in Carmarthen Cemetery. Also on the CWGC site service number 3956610, you can download documents from there.
First son Thomas Charles Healy 1909 possibly died 1993 Carmarthen.
Daughter Esther Irene Healy b 1915 Married James T Hagan in 1934 and they are in Swansea in 1939. She died there in 1995.
Another possible child Stanley Dec 1912  LLanelly mmn Rowlands.
