Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kilmarnock - name of church?
« on: Wednesday 07 April 21 12:11 BST (UK) »
There is no indication with the baptismal entry of an ancestor from 1800 on ScotlandsPeople of the name of the church, but its seems (from Ancestry) that it is recorded on LDS film 1041386 as Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kilmarnock.

Where was that church and the name?

If it was in the kirk, it would probably have been the High Kirk https://canmore.org.uk/site/234087/kilmarnock-soulis-street-old-high-kirk-and-kirkyard-with-soulis-monument

In fact, it was quite common for the minister to baptise a child in the parents' home. So unless the baptism record says that the child was baptised in the presence of the congregation, you cannot assume that it was in the kirk building.

And of course FHL film whatever is merely a copy of the original records which are available on Scotland's People. Never trust anything you find online, especially on Ancestry and other commercial web sites, unless it's an image of an original document.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

The original mediaeval kirk in Kilmarnock has been rebuilt a number of times. A chapel of ease was built in 1732, which separated from Kilmarnock parish in 1811 and was then known as the High Kirk. The original church in the centre of the town was then referred to as the Laigh Kirk. The Laigh Kirk still has a 17th century tower, but the main part was rebuilt in 1750, demolished in 1801 and then rebuilt.

The ScotlandsPeople index gives the parish for Andrew's baptism as Kilmarnock.

Thank you for your comments and help.

Although FHL film is 'merely' a copy of the original records, I mentioned it because it named Church of Scotland, Parish Church of Kilmarnock as the source.

PS I have done some research before.  ::)

Macharskin,

Could the Church you are looking for be "Kilmaronock Parish Church", near Gartocharn, West Dunbartonshire, and not Kilmarnock, Ayrshire?

The index to ScotlandsPeople clearly states it is Kilmarnock.
