Does anyone know Desford well?
« on: Wednesday 07 April 21 14:38 BST (UK) »
Desford parish council have a “brief history of Desford” on their website. This mentions some specific buildings which I’d like to try to identify.

It says that the oldest domestic buildings are probably the Food Room, which I’ve googled, and the Stitch in Time house. Anyone know where that is?

What about the Old Forge?

Here’s the link, in case anyone’s interested:

I passed through Desford on the school bus every school day from 1956 to 1962 on my way to Market Bosworth but we were usually engaged in some game or other to take too much notice. I learned how to play the piano at my teacher's house in Station Rd. Desford during the same period and our next door neighbour in LFE was a miner at Desford Colliery. Sadly I remain as ignorant about what was where in Desford as I was then. Sorry!

There is a description of The Old Forge in this document

www.desfordvision.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2017/03/Conservation-Area-Appraisal.pdf

If you enter the house number, street and village, as shown on page 10, in Google maps, you can see it in Street View

And an old picture
