Accidentally Killed 2 Nov 1940 ?
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 10:32 BST (UK) »
Helping someone try to find out more about a Relative who died in WW2
We trace him on CWGC site buried with Military Headstone at Yew Tree Cemetery
Sgt 3760721 William James of 8th (Irish) King's Liverpool Btn died 2 Nov 1940

But the Family Legend was that he was Torpedoed at Sea.

Looked for U boat sinkings

Then we found Liverpool Echo Notice 6 November 1940 giving Funeral arrangements at Yew Tree

It was Headed " James  Sgt William 8th Irish aged 41 Accidentally Killed"

Appears to be no Death Certificate Index

How can we find more.

Any ideas?

Was just about to Suggest that to them, just hope they Don't insist on us having a Death Certificate which is what we hope they can point us towards.

If he died In Service, then you don't need a Death Certificate ;D
Presumably because they already have all the details in their Military Records.

Read all the forms, carefully! ;)

How old was he when he died? ADDED see he was 41years old in your post

The man mentioned above was 44, there is a long piece in the Thanet Advertiser 9th November 1940.
Inquest into the accidental death of Sgt. William James, soldier knocked down by a bus on the Ramsgate Road.
No mention of family or Liverpool.
Possible death reg William James aged 44 Thanet  2a 3381

Cathy

The dates/days mentioned would have made his death Nov 2nd

Hmm..
Liverpool Catholic burials at Yew Tree Cemetery 1940 give  his age as 44 (Ancestry)
Hope I ve not got another William James! But a lot of co incidences.

Thanks CaroleW, ShaunJ, Cath151

Looked on GRO index site the other day for Death Index saw nearest age was 44 in Thanet District discounted it till Cath151 Found Probate at Ramsgate.
Brilliant Detective work Cath151 you helped crack the mystery and now with Thanet Advertiser article. Wow !

Family have sent for Thanet Death Certificate

Also applying for Army Recordsper CaroleW suggestion.

Thanks everyone for your Time and Input

Will keep you Updated if we get more from Certificate etc.
