I am trying to research Anthony Maher (deceased).

Born approx Feb 1938 in Liverpool.
Married Teresa Kelly in July 1959.
Died in Telford, Shropshire approx 2010.


I then want to go back in his family tree as there is no one I know who is related who can advise.

Have you thought about ordering his marriage certificate? That would give you his father and make everything a lot easier.

EDIT: Do you know whether he had a sister? There is a Maureen Maher born in 1942 in Liverpool to a mother named MORAN.

You may want to take a look at the 1939 register entry for Anthony Maher born February 1933.  Given the uncertainty about his birthyear

1924 marriage on freebmd - James E Maher/Mary B Moran could be his parents but you need his 1959 marriage cert to confirm

Looks possible that 2 daughters were born to the 1959 marriage

Anthony Maher born 1st February 1938 with a James E Maher and Mary B Maher in 1939.
As suggested earlier, you really need to get Anthony's marriage certificate to see if his father was called James.
