Last one tonight!

Again from my Great Grandmother's collection. I zoomed in on the written side only this time.
It was posted to:
Miss Beaumont
210 Northfield Road, Crookes, Sheffield
Post Marked Sheffield Jun 19th 1911

June 19th (20 crossed out) 1911

Below that I can only make out
"My dear Maud,
I wish you very many happy returns of the day.
Won't be long before you come to see us again...." And then I am afraid I only get odd words until the end of:

"With love
From Blanche"

Lord knows how I would have coped preinternet days!

Thanks again
MJ
Fouldes.<br />Any area where our family are.  My branch started around Derbyshire, Nott's and Yorkshire.  We ended up in South Lincolnshire!  So yay!  Course any area with Fouldes in would help!  See my family tree below for what gaps I have!  Cheers!

Would also like to see any Beaumont's from Sheffield as I have lots of family photos & can't identify them!!

...are you going over to G?J? on Thursday, I expect I am having company, we were out while 1/2 past 10 last night listening to Mr Smith from Sheffield he was grand.  He is coming again in a fortnight yesterday. Will you come
with love Blanch.

I love that 'while' is used in the Yorkshire way to mean 'until'  ;D

I wonder who Mr Smith was?

You may have already seen that 210 Northfield Road, and the next door house seem to be merged together as a Nail Bar - but this is the sort of house Maud lived in.

Thank you for the transcription and the photo. That is a gorgeous house! Love the grey brick! I would happily live there now!

Cheers

I wonder if Mr Smith was a speaker she saw at chapel as I know my Fouldes relatives were chapel goers.

It could be that the letter is a J - maybe for her future husband Jack/John?

Thank you again. Yes I love all the funny phrases they use. "I hope you are going on alright" is vey common!

Cheers

Another postcard I cannot make out text for! Well actually it is just ONE word!

What I have is:
Dear Maud,
Hope you got home alright on Thursday. I forgot to tell you that I shouldn't see you at six on Monday because if all goes well I am going to that ???????????? and so I shall leave at 4 o' clock so if you can make it convenient to see me then will you let me know & then I can look out for you so goodbye.
With love
From Blanche."

So it's just that bit between "going to that" and "and so I shall leave....." that I cannot make out.

I have attached a zoomed in version so you can see the word better.

Thanks again
MJ

well it seems to say "loosing" but I really don't know what that means.

Can't make it say anything else I DO understand either.

Off to google "loosing"

Apparently "loosing' can mean 'wandering about from place to place' in Yorkshire dialect, so could it be a walk she's going on, with some companions perhaps?

Just a guess really

Added:

just found another definition in Yorkshire dialect "a celebration of someone's 21st birthday".
Which seems more likely?

I used to work in Leeds many years ago, and there were many common usages I'd never heard before (being a despised Londoner), so it may well be that a "loosing" is as common as a "fuddle" which is apparently the well-accepted word for a work gathering, at work, where everyone brings in food for their colleagues/workmates.

I can remember now the expressions people had when I said I'd never heard of it.   :o ::) :-[
