I used to work in Leeds many years ago, and there were many common usages I'd never heard before (being a despised Londoner), so it may well be that a "loosing" is as common as a "fuddle" which is apparently the well-accepted word for a work gathering, at work, where everyone brings in food for their colleagues/workmates.

I can remember now the expressions people had when I said I'd never heard of it.   :o ::) :-[

Thanks for all that. Yes I had never heard of Loosing so it was good to find out. I wasn't sure of Fuddled! I know befuddled - a state which I am often in!!

Cheers
MJ
Fouldes.<br />Any area where our family are.  My branch started around Derbyshire, Nott's and Yorkshire.  We ended up in South Lincolnshire!  So yay!  Course any area with Fouldes in would help!  See my family tree below for what gaps I have!  Cheers!

Would also like to see any Beaumont's from Sheffield as I have lots of family photos & can't identify them!!

Attached is another postcard from my Great Grandad Jack to his future wife Maud. I cannot make a thing out here - well apart from "Dear Maud" and "Jack"!

Can I request your wonderful eyes again?

Thanks MJ

Middle bit looks to me like:

"Father is having a good time"

I love these postcards.  ;D Alone for the fact that he signs off with "from your for ever Jack". It's just so romantic. *sigh*

One tiny thing I noticed - which makes no difference to the meaning - is that I think the word after "I" is a bit too long to be "read". It looks to me like "Rec'd", i.e. received.

I hope that you are unable to read a few more of the postcards!  ;)

Best regards,
Karen

Thank you Karen. Yes they are lovely. There are so many that I haven't uploaded as I can read them!  I will share others I am sure though!

It is sweet reading some of these. I think you are right, also, with received.

Thanks again
MJ

So for this next postcard I think it says:

Mrs Fouldes,
3 Sharp's Passage, Boston Rd, Sleaford, Lincs
Post Marked Bungay(?) June 19th 1916(?)

Dear Maud,
Wishing many happy returns of the day.  I have got a B.E. button for you when I write you a letter will put it in.
I am having a good time a week has soon gone but am staying another week. The weather isn't very nice just now it has started to rain again.
Will send you word when I am going back home.
With love Edith xxxx
****************************

I think that looks correct, unless you tell me different but can anyone tell what the year might be? I did zoom in on the stamp to help!  Also in the main text does anyone know what a "B.E. button" is? Unless I have gotten the initials wrong!

Thank you again.
MJ

This is just a wild guess, but could it stand for British Empire?
