Basford union workhouse
« on: Thursday 08 April 21 20:55 BST (UK) »
I m looking for info on Mary Ann Burrows . On the 1871 census she is in Basford workhouse with her 2 yr old daughter - who was born in Walsall union workhouse -and has another child in Basford in 1874.
She will have been in Basford anytime after jan1869 - and was definitely out by December 1877. I wondered if her husband William went in or died but he isn t on the 1871 census.Any info or admittance \ discharge records/birth records gratefully rec d

The 1871 census says Mary Ann is age 20 and a widow.
This is her daughter Eliza's birth registration?
Eliza Burrows mother's maiden name Simmons
March 1/4 1869 registration district WALSALL  Vol 6b  page 626
The marriage of Mary Ann and William Burrows 1868 Burton on Trent has Mary's surname Symmonds.
What is the name of the child born to Mary Ann in 1874?
This  info is to give some background from which to work.

Yes that should be Basford . Sorry my typo. I ll try to amend.
Thankyou Crisane. Yes I have Eliza s    Birth certificate and Thomas s in 1874 and the marriage Certificate from 1868. The only thing to give me more details will be workhouse records I think !

Hi Carol
Sadly i think that you will find that Basford Union Workhouse records for that period have not survived. I have been trying to find the father of  a relation born in this workhouse with a middle name likely to be related to the father and i know that the records for 1862 do not exist.
