Before reading the other comments my thought was that
this is a stock photo of an actress.
The backdrop is a typical 1880's/90's studio set.
Her curled fringe is also of that period so that is the timeframe
I would suggest.

Thanks all!

Just to check with the view of it being an actress, I have similar photos of relatives (who definitely weren't actors/actresses!) posing for studio photos with painted backdrops. Is it the woman's clothes/hair that are making people think she's probably an actress?

In a new development, the contact who shared the photo with me has sent me some other photos that I'd appreciate people's perspectives on relative to the original photo of the young lady. The attached photos show a mother and child - the older woman was born in 1862, and the child (her daughter) was born in 1883. To my eyes, there's a striking similarity in the facial structures of the unknown young lady in my original post and the child shown in the portrait here.

Is there a chance that the unknown young lady could be the child's mother as a young woman? I estimate that the photos I attach here of the mother are dated to the late 1900s/early 1910s, when she's be in her late 40s. So if the photo of the young lady in my original post is from the mid-1880s, she'd be in her early 20s (which would correspond to the young lady's appearance).

I'd appreciate other people's input on this. Thanks!

It is her clothing & hairstyle that indicates a stock photo of an
actress/singer/dancer.
Stock photos of notable people were very popular.
The photos of Evelyn are Edwardian with the 2nd. possibly up to WW1.
The child is difficult to date without seeing all of the card stock.

My opinion is that it would be extremely difficult to determine a relationship by looking at a photo of a young woman and a photo of a child.

In this case I think both subjects have roundish faces but I'm not convinced there are other similarities.

I am guessing that the young girl may be a redhead. I don't think that the young lady is. Whether that is the case, or if it proves anything regarding relationships, I don't know.  :)

Thanks both! Those are very sensible/illuminating responses. It really is impossible to tell whether the different people are connected, but I appreciate the insights.
