Lakeman - McQuire circa 1926
« on: Friday 09 April 21 10:53 BST (UK) »
Can anyone help with the marriage of a Lakeman (male) and a McQuire (female circa 1926.

I have the following Lakeman children all registered in Ipswich with the mothers maiden name of McQuire:
Robert S 1926
Jack C 1927
Betty J 1928
Frederick W 1930
Doris E 1931
but I have failed to find a marriage.  Any help appreciated.

From the 1939 register it looks as if the father was Robert Lakeman born 1886 and the mother Ellen born 1890. I can't see a marriage though.

Is it possible that Robert John Lakeman had married a Winifred Morriss in Medway district in 1914. This is the same registration area as his birth, and so was not in a "legal" position to marry Ellen.

Thanks for that. According to Robert Lakeman's Army attestation form there is a Winifred Morris born circa 1894 and married at Chatham Registry office on 14 Oct 1944.  There is a child shown born Aug 1917 which looks like Ernest Frank but the writing is not good and I can't find any ref to him nor to what happened to Winifred.

So it looks as though Robert was married to Winifred. The Ernest Frank JERMEY was born 13th August 1917 mmn Jermey. He appears in 1939 the guest of HMP Lewes with the name Robert E Jermey dob 13 July 1917 and married, and he dies in 1993 in Brentwood Essex as Robert Ernest with a dob as per Robert's military record. Looking to see who he married if he indeed did.

Boughton    Alfred R    Gibson    W.Ham    4a   250
Gibson    Emily M F    Boughton    W.Ham    4a   250
Jermey    Robert E    Bidmead    W.Ham    4a   250

Chelmsford Chronicle 07 April 1939

Article detailing why he was in Lewes prison. There is other interesting info in this article as well re Robert being the adopted son.
