Thomas Hall 1857 Clevedon or Weston Super Mare
« on: Saturday 10 April 21 12:19 BST (UK) »

I have now the marriage cert of Thomas Hall age 23 and Ellen Jefferies  22 They married 26 Jan 1875 in Cardiff
Thomas Hall according to censuses was born Clevedon Somerset or Weston Super Mare

He was said to be a sailor at marriage which ties in as he became a channel pilot on Bristol Channel His father was said to be Alfred Hall a farmer deceased
Witnesses H and Mary Patterson
I cant seem to find a birth record for Thomas
I can see on 1861 census a Thomas Hall 1853  Clevedon living as a boarder with Jane Hall a widow born 1819 Congresbury living in Weston Super Mare
Cant find a marriage for a Jane to Alfred Hall
I can see Thomas on census 1871  as Assistant pilot born "Waters Upandre Somerset" Said to be found Under Pier Head Cardiff
Could do with some help thanks

Yes birth is elusive isn't it  :-\

Maybe we can find Jane and/or Alfred somewhere to help us out.

Yes she could have been single and claimed to be a widow but as they were both boarders we can't necessarily assume they were mother and son  :-\

He may have made up Alfred Hall farmer if he didn't know his father but not giving up yet.

Maybe the witness names would help?  Will have a look.

Think I can find the witnesses in 1871 Cardiff.

Married Bridgewater 1849.

Henry was a mariner.

None of which helps with Thomas.

Thanks for your help

"Waters Upandre Somerset" Is that a real place or is it a typo error ?

What reg district does Weston and Clevedon come under Is it Axbridge

Is there some sort of seamans record ?

W-s-M was in Axbridge Registration District, 1837-1936.
Clevedon was in Bedminster Registration District, 1837-1899; then Long Ashton Registration District from 1899 to 1936.

Both Clevedon and W-s-M became part of Weston-super-Mare Registration District in 1936, until 1974.
