Thomas Smith m. Mary Wood 2 July, 1876

Finally got a lead on my Thomas Smith.  it looks like this might be him so am wondering if you can help me here.

Thomas Smith b 2 July 1850 to Laurence & Adrerina Smith in Shetland.  He married a Mary Wood 2 July 1876 in Blade (near Manchester) in Lancashire England.  Can you help me find his marriage and some census information after his marriage?  Need to prove this is the correct Thomas with the correct Laurence Smith father.  

Thomas is the only Smith in this family that i have never been able to trace.  No on in Shetland seems to know what happened to him and have been looking for his whereabouts for over 20 years.

The marriage you mention was held at St Paul's in Hulme, Manchester. (I have never heard of Blade)

His occupation was shown as a Packer -- his father, Laurence's, occupation was a Cooper.

Both the bride and groom were living at 11 Cuba St.

Does the father's occupation fit with what you know of Laurence?

ADDED  - both the bride and groom were 26 years old and married 2 July 1876 -- so that was his 26th birthday!

According to the entry on Free Reg, the father af the groom was Lawrence Smith,  a cooper.

It looks like the family MAY have gone to New Zealand - where Thomas died - there's mention of this Thomas being born Shetland and also mention of an Andrina - but looks like she was HIS wife, not his mother - so just a possible coincidence.

Worth looking at though.

None of these are the correct Thomas Smith.  His father died fishing off the coast of Burra, Shetland long before he left Shetland - if he did?

Was so sure this might have been him so am so disappointed.  His mother lived until 1898 but no idea what happened to this son.  No one in Shetland seems to know either which is rather odd.

I can only see transcripts of censuses but Thomas doesn’t show as born in 1850.

YES - that is my family.  Its my GG Grandfather Laurence Smith who died while ling fishing off the coast of Burra in Shetland.  He was lost at sea for 6 months and dragged ashore.  His late brother was asked to identify him and became sick after doing so.  Gather he had what today would be called a nervous breakdown.  His son, also called Laurence came to Canada with the Hudson Bay Company and settled here.  That is where I live and do want to thank you all for taking a look at this.  Still do not know what happened to Thomas Smith.   No record of his dying in Scotland.
