Street name on 1861 census
« on: Sunday 11 April 21 10:59 BST (UK) »
Good morning Rootschatters,
This should be an easy one. I can't decipher the street name on the 1861 census for my g. grandparents. Is it Bargels or Burgels street (or something totally different) in Manchester. My g.grandparents lived at no. 5 Robert & Mary Bullows. The transcript just has 5 ..?...Manchester. Also what area of Manchester as I am not familiar with the city.
Any help would be appreciated, thanking you, Paul Thompson

Possibly Burgess (with the long s)!  I haven't actually looked at either Ancestry of FindMyPast for confirmation.

Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.

Thanks BumbleB & Wivenhoe, I had googled Bargels/Burgels and it came up with Burgess but I dismissed it as it didn't look right.
The census was taken from FindMyPast

Burgess Street and have checked there is one in Manchester, possibly Harpuhey which was once a very deprived area, apparently.

Thanks manukarik, I had noticed that Burgess St. was/is in Harpurhey and that's the area that my family were living for many years so could well be right

I think that this might be the location for Burgess Street -

Many thanks BumbleB, My g. grandparents also lived on Conran & Priam streets as well, all very close to each other
