Missing sisters, Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Josephine Gorman
« on: Sunday 11 April 21 21:25 BST (UK) »
I have hit a blank wall regarding Sarah Elizabeth and Mary Josephine Gorman sisters of Francis Gorman.

Sarah was born 30th Aug 1868 at 32 Townsend Street to Francis and Mary Daly.
Her baptism registers her mother as Mary Daly. The address was 63 Townsend street.

Mary was the twin of Francis, born 7 Dec 1869 to Francis and Mary Byrne of 53 Townsend Street. Mary and Francis mother was registered as Mary Daly of the same address.

What i assume to be correct about their parents are as follows:

Francis married Mary Connery in 1848 St Andrews Church.
Mary Daly married Michael Ennis in 1851 St Andrews Church.
Francis and Mary married in 1867 St Andrews Church.
Francis died in 1870 not long after the birth of the twins.

The two sisters seem to disappear of the face of the earth as there is no records of marriages or deaths for both.

I can't find a marriage between Francis and a Mary Byrne.
Did Mary remarry after Francis death in 1870?
If so did his two daughters take the surname of their new stepfather?

Francis born 1869 married a Mary Hart in 1894, which appears he didn't.

I would be grateful of any help.

Thanks

I don’t understand this - you say,
“Francis born 1869 married a Mary Hart in 1894, which appears he didn't.”

Here is the marriage

Ah, do you mean he didn’t take the name of a stepfather?

Thanks heywood.

Yes, I should of worded it better and should of said I had all births and marriage certs for the above.

What I need to know is what happened to the two sisters Sarah and Mary.
The 3 of them were only babies when their father died in 1870, so I'm thinking along the lines that they could of entered the workhouse.

I think that is a distinct possibility.
I gathered you had those records but sometimes it is easier to flip to the link rather than read the written word - for me anyway  :)

I see that Francis’ bride had a Townsend Street address. Was Petersons Lane close by? It looks to be according to the census.

Thanks. I thought it was according to the censuses.
I was wondering if there was a directory that might give an indication as to who/where Francis was living before his marriage.
