Mary Bone / Henry Bone
« on: Monday 12 April 21 21:53 BST (UK) »
I have a Mary Bone marrying Gilbert Kinnear 1873. She was born Alton 1851. On her marriage cert she says her father is Henry Bone, Bricklayer, but the only Mary and Henry Bone father and daughter match I can find is one where the Henry died long before the marriage and he was an Ag Labourer. The marriage cert (Farnham, Surrey) does not say deceased. Any help appreciated.

Just to say marriage certificates did not always say fathers were deceased even if they were.
Sometimes just the name was given and that was enough information.

Well, what names witnessed?
Is she consistent in age & birthplace?
Have you located her birth in the index?

Thanks, I thought that, but listing him as Bricklayer just seemed a very specific occupation and I was told he built a new house for the newly married couple, which he obviously could not do if dead! But, perhaps it was other Bone relations? Everything else seems to point to the deceased Henry Bone though.

Are you looking at the Mary with mother Caroline?

I see Mary names her first daughter Caroline so that points in the right direction.

Have you a death year for Henry Bone?

Two random names witnessed in context of the couple.
Yes - consistently gives correct age and Alton as birth place.
Bone seems a popular Alton name! I found a couple of Mary Bone's in the time frame.

Yes, that was my thinking.

I see probable death for Henry now - Dec 1857 age 37.

I guess you could get the death certificate for him if you wanted to see if he had turned into a bricklayer by then but agree it's quite specific.

Or if any of Mary's brothers or sisters married you could see what they put for Henry on their marriage certificates.
