Military records or anything!
« on: Tuesday 13 April 21 17:44 BST (UK) »
I am trying to get more information regarding the following Ancestor on my husbands side:-
Robert Lamont 1912–1995
BIRTH 18 OCT 1912 • Glasgow Maryhill, Lanarkshire, Scotland
DEATH 1995 • Glasgow Martha Street  610/ 404
Father :- Robert Lamont 1883-1965
Mother :- Maria Thomson McKenzie - 1891-1971

Not sure if he married- can't find a record, also not sure of his death date. Don't think I can order certificate if it is 1995. Hoping maybe a newspaper entry somewhere or a will? Would also love to know about his military records- trying to find a link to a DNA match and need to know what regiment he was in and where he served etc.
Hoping for some help - usually have a great response from the Roots community so fingers crossed!

You can't view a 1995 death certificate online, but you can order one through www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk

Alternatively you can wait until the Scotland's People Centres reopen and ask for someone who is going there to transcribe the information for you.
Never trust anything you find online (especially submitted trees and transcriptions on Ancestry, MyHeritage, FindMyPast and other commercial web sites) unless it's an image of an original document - and even then be wary because errors can and do occur.

In respect of WW2 service papers, you have to order these directly from here www.gov.uk/get-copy-military-service-records  There is a charge for this (£30 I think, although it may have increased).

I can't see how else you will find his service history, unless someone here on RC recognises him and knows this information.

You need a copy of his death record to get his military record.

Thanks everyone for your replies. I'll keep looking. I am not sure if I can order the death certificate if it's not available on Scotland's people?

If it's not available to order on SP at the moment, it will be once the pandemic restrictions are lifted.
