What ever happened to Robert Dickson
« on: Tuesday 13 April 21 19:34 BST (UK) »
Hi everybody,  it's been a long time since I have been on this site.... I am looking for information on Robert Dickson who was born in Cambusnethan 1887 and was married to Joan Wigston in Carluke in 1910. He was my late husband's grandfather and not one of the family that are still alive knows anything about him.  Can anyone help me please. Thanks in advance

On the Ancestry website there is a Robert Dickson, shown as born Carluke in 1885 - with a wife Joan - who died on 25th April 1939 in Hamilton, Wentworth, Ontario. Gives him a birth date of 31 Dec 1885 though. (To clarify - it was Robert who died on this date, not Joan!!)

The death cert is shown -- which also reveals he had been a soldier.

maybe you will find him on emigration records or the Canadian census records.

They both appear on the 1911 census in Carluke, see https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk, the name is noted as Dixon, they have a daughter.

If you get the address from that record you can then check the Valuation Rolls, this might give an indication of when they left Scotland.

Death for a Joan Dickson 1960 Carluke Lanarkshire aged 72 other surname Wigston
On Scotland's People
Also some records of their family so if this is the same family looks like they never went to join  Robert in Canada ..Not seeing anything on passenger lists

Great finds Rosie -- I couldn't find them on passenger lists either.

I am attaching just an extract from the death - showing relevant points - birthplace, wife's name, the words 'returning soldier' (what did that mean!)

My apologies for the tool bar appearing in the centre of the image - try as I might, I couldn't get it off.

Oh gosh now that clever Rosie has actually found the grave!! I'm still going to post this though.

Not sure what that means  :P
Think the burial and Grave stone has been paid for by funding from the army maybe ?with him being unemployed  Don't see any army records for him
