Free Church Home, Bournemouth
« on: Wednesday 14 April 21 08:44 BST (UK) »
Hello,
I would like some information on Free Church Home , Bournemouth.
I was born there , in the 1960's . I’ve only discovered this information . My mother was 17 at the time. I wasn’t put up for adoption.
My mother & I lived in Boscombe on Christchurch road for a short period of time.
Any information would be gratefully appreciated.

Thank you

Kind regards

Francesca

Welcome to Rootschat.

There is very little information online, there were two Free Church Homes in Bournemouth, one in St. Albans Ave, Lower Charminster, and the other in Richmond Park Rd. They both took girls from the age of 14, it doesn’t show when they closed. I knew of them but don’t remember hearing much about them at that time.

Hello Francesca and welcome from me too.

There are a few mentions of a Free Church Home in Bournemouth in old newspapers from 1921 to 1965, although if there were more than one they don't really say which one they are referring to. They don't say much about the Home itself, but give you some idea of names of staff and a little of what it was like. Happy to send you copies of the articles if you like. If you make one more reply you can use the RootsChat personal message system so that I can give you my email address.
