Looking for information Regarding a David Lothian/ Loathian
« on: Wednesday 14 April 21 18:27 BST (UK) »
I seem to have come across a bit of a brick wall when looking into my 5th G.Grandfather on my father's side.

David Lothian born c1777 in Robin Hoods Bay.
according to the 1851 census his wife (Elizabeth[nee Gillings(Jellings)c1777-1853]) is a widow. FHL film number 919060 16 Esplanade.

They were married 12 July 1803 in Fylingdales
They also had a daughter born 1820 in fylingdales and died in whitby?

If I could get some assistance for this i would be greatful.

Anni

Is this the death you are looking at?
Have you verified that it is a daughter, and not an in-law?

is the the 1841 census for Elizabeth? https://www.familysearch.org/ark:/61903/1:1:MQPM-4MC

Elizabeth surely wed after civil registration.
Why no witnesses?

The Elizabeth Lothian who died in Whitby was David's wife in 1853.

If their daughter Elizabeth married when and to whom?

There are no Lothian's in Fylingdales before David married there in 1803.   Since David Lothian does not appear on any census you cannot know where he was born and I suspect he died sometime between 1820 (when dau. Elizabeth born) and 1841 as in 1841 not with Elizabeth (who is with married dau. Jane Richardson and grandchild).

I note from marriage that he was a Sailor and could well have died at sea.

I suspect he was probably born in Scotland.
