George Smith WW1
« on: Thursday 15 April 21 08:54 BST (UK) »
I'm trying to figure out the exact year and quarter he was born.

George Smith doesn't have a middle name this proving difficult.

Although found this can someone help me narrow the exact year and quarter?.

Thank You

That form states he was 28 years and 5 months on discharge on 3 April 1918. I reckon he was probably born in the last quarter of 1889. Maths is not my strong point so you need to check my calculation.

The difference in dates isn't enough to make any difference to his age.  Assuming that his age is correct then his birth registration should be in DQ 1889.

Do you know where he was born?  What regiment did he serve with?

Hi Rosie yes his army records on there but not one document has date of birth. Cannot find him on 1901 census even.

Thanks for replying 🙂

I've found a baptism here with a father called Thomas but earlier than we thought perhaps?

Lancashire Baptisms

First name(s)   George Albert
Last name   Smith
Birth year   1889
Birth date   21 May 1889
Baptism year   1889
Baptism date   09 Jun 1889
Baptism place   Liverpool, St Peter
Denomination   Church Of England
Diocese   Liverpool
Residence   Bootle
Father's first name(s)   Thomas
Father's occupation   Joiner
Mother's first name(s)   Eliza
County   Lancashire
Country   England
Archive
Liverpool Record Office
Archive reference   283-PET-2-88

The image shows his father's occupation to be joiner.  Does that match with George's marriage certificate details?

Would he be in 1939 Register? that would give date of birth. We aren't allowed to do lookups for it but I think both Ancestry and Find My Past have it.
Away sorting out DNA matches... I may be gone for some time many years!
