Presbyterian PRs in Bailieborough and Skeagh
« on: Thursday 15 April 21 11:51 BST (UK) »
Looking for some guidance on parish records for Bailieborough and Skeagh areas of Cavan. I've got some helpful info from civil records, as far back as they go, but I'm looking for bps and marriages in the time period c. 1810-1845. I've seen some screenshots of images attached to Ancestry trees so presume the records are there to be found but I'm not sure where to look. I believe the families were presbyterian although I've had a quick look through the RC records on the NLI site but not seen anything relevant.

Might these records be held locally, or perhaps on a pay-to-view website?

Many thanks for any guidance.

It doesn't look like the Presbyterian records for Bailieborough go back as far as you say so I suspect what you've seen could be from Church of Ireland registers.

You can search for Cavan check records here-

Note: Presbyterians don't use a parish system. Their churches are grouped into Presbyteries but there are different sorts of Presbyterian churches (Secession, Reformed, etc.) so you might have to look at a variety of churches- and not always the nearest one to where a family was living.

Many thanks, that's just what I was after. There seem to be three sources: PRONI and RCBL which, I presume, you have to request images of film; and RootsIreland which is pay-to-view on-line. Just need to take my pick. Thanks again.

I've just gone back to the John Gresham website and it's now pay-to-view - do you get so many tries before being charged?

The John Gresham site is free. Exactly what are you seeing that is pay-to view?  Is it one of the entries like this that goes to another site?
