There is a way of estimating his likely enlistment date.  His Regimental Number was issued from a range allocated to the Royal Scots so if you can find someone who has a number near it and their enlistment date you can estimate when your soldier enlisted. 

Did he serve in Burma with 1st Bn Royal Scots?

Thanks for your advice Skoyen89 but I didn't give it a thought and dated my cheque back in February,

Oh well nothing I can do about it now will just have to wait and see what happens,

not sure what you have found out but your James George Williams was killed during the 1st Arakan Campaign.1942/43. The Royal Scots were attached to the 6th brigade of the 2nd British Division. The campaign was a disaster from start to finish and ended with a general withdrawal
