Aleathea Louisa NEWTON
« on: Thursday 15 April 21 20:08 BST (UK) »
Can someone please help me find this elusive lady ?  She was born in March 1921, and married a John F BURNEY in 1940 (which is registered in both Sleaford, Lincolnshire and Salford, Lancashire).  She appears on the 1939 Census in Yorkshire as an Assistant Nurse (but I can't read the address). She later married a Leslie WIDDOWS, and died in 1998. I can't find her birth anywhere, and as she was a Nurse, wonder if she came from Ireland ?  Many thanks. ??? ??? ??? ???

Have you searched the nursing register for clues?
Tried alternative names for her? GRO index will have second forename in full

BURNEY   John F   NEWTON   Eleathea L   1940   Salford Register Office or Registrar Attended   Salford   SAL/199/135

Births Jun 1921   (>99%)
Newton    Eleather L    Edwards    Salford    8d   198

All census look up transcriptions are Crown Copyright http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/

Thank you Pauline....  I'm still a bit confused about her birth though with the name Edwards ? Also on her Death record, her birth is shown as March 1921. Also why would the Marriage to John F BURNEY be in both Sleaford, Lincs and Salford Lancs ?  The one in Salford was probably an RC Church which would explain the presence of a Registrar.  Also, I couldn't find her birth in the GRO Index either  :) :) :)

She was born Newton with a mother’s maiden name of Edwards.

Where have you seen the marriage registered in Sleaford?

It looks as though it is a transcription error.
Salford, Lancs.
Sleaford, Lincs.

I see it now transcribed on Ancestry but if you view the record, you can see it is Salford.

Is the 1939 Register record for Althea Newton, assistant nurse in Bedale? If so she is not your girl as dob is wrong and she married 1944 to Sydney Metcalfe as Alethea.

she may still be redacted on 1939. I can find George, Florence and a younger daughter, but there is a locked name (on Ancestry) between parents and younger that could be her.

Added: looking at BMD there isn't another child in between Eleather and this other  daughter
