Sorry If I'm not very clear with the info I'm giving, but other than Doreen and siblings, it's all I've got, lol.
I've just seen a John George White and Dorothy May Lawrence with a daughter "Margaret Louisa Jamieson" nee White b 2nd Jan 1917.
Any good???

Hi crisane.

I've just been in touch with a cousin and she's given me some more info, hope this helps.

John George White had been in either the Coldstream guards 💂 or grenadier guards during the 1st world war.

Now, she did mention the name Beatrice who you mentioned earlier.. Also other children in the family, Gordon, Alma or Elma, Peggy, and possibly a brother Jack to add to the list

During WW2 they lived in Madras Road, Ilford Essex.

The children with the family I found in 1939 did include a Beatrice and a Gordon. There are 3 other records which are redacted so possibly the other children mentioned in your last post.
I will look some more but will have to leave it for a little while
More than 6o% of WW1 service records were destroyed by bombing/fire/water in WW11 so we will be very lucky if your man's survived. The Medal Index cards and the Award and Medal rolls survived but they very very rarely have any personal information on them so it is very difficult to say for sure if we have the right person if the name is not uncommon.

ancestry has a Medal Roll Index card for a John G White of the Coldstream Guards.
He received the Victory and 15 Star medals
John G White
Coldstream Guards, Regimental Number - 12417
Labour Corps, Regimental Number - 641388

I couldn't see a John G White in the Grenadier Guards. Whether the one above is your man...? There are other John G Whites but this one is the only one in the Coldstream Guards

Good morning crisane.

I would like to say that I'm extremely pleased and thankful for the info you have found me.
This goes a long way to help, as it certainly is starting to clear up some of the "fuzz" regarding my aunt Doreen's family.

Much appreciated,
F H

The family wasn't in Madras Road in 1939. On FindMyPast you can search by address with county and borough/district. I didn't have a street number so just entered Essex, Ilford. Madras Road, then browsed. I don't have a subscription but it give give me 14 pages of results but none of them with the surname White.

There is a birth registration for an Elma I White reg dist Hammersmith
March 1/4 1926  mmn Lawrence  vol 1a page 260

There are no birth registrations for a Peggy White 1923 - 1945 so I looked for one for a Margaret White (Peggy being a nickname for Margaret) and there is only one in the March 1/4 1945 but it is in Wales.
There are no births for a Jack White in the same period but there are 3 or 4 for John Whites one of which is in Romford 1927.

This looks like the birth reg for Margaret Louisa but the middle initial is I which could be a typo - just checked it out on the original typewritten entry and it is an L - so birth reg March 1/4 1917 reg dist Brentford Middlesex

amondg thanks for confirming the address for this family in the 1939 register.

I am leaving this for now, time for some sleep over here. :)

Hi,

I think this is John's entry in the enlistment register for the Coldstream Guards, indexed as J G WHITE,

Regt no:  12417
Name:                        WHITE John George
Date of Attestation:     08.09.1914
Age on Attestation:     21  95/365
Place of Attestation:    Fulham
Trade on Enlistment:    Painter
Place of Birth:        Hammersmith,London, Middx

Particulars of Marriage:
Dorothy May Winifred LAWRENCE    Brentford    07.03.1914
John Richard            Brentford    16.07.1914
Margaret Louisa       Brentford    02.01.1917
(Medal numbers)
Trans to Labour Corps.

The years and days of his DOB , which I think would be 05 June 1893, is wrong compared to his age in 1939 but the other details fit perfectly.

Marriage
John G WHITE    Mar Q 1914    Brentford    3a  267
Dorothy M W LAWRENCE

So this shows that Dorothy had another middle name Winifred which might help find her birth.

Regards,
Daisy
