Exploring French records for Italian immigrant ancestors
« on: Sunday 18 April 21 13:50 BST (UK) »
Hello, I have just acquired my x2 Grandfather's birth record from his Italian hometown, Borgotaro.  On the record it also lists his Marriage details, which it seems occurred at the Italian consulate in Marseille, France in December 1878.   I had heard that my Italian ancestors spent time in Paris before moving to London, but did not know they lived/married here.

I am interested to find more records/details of them in France but don't know how/where to search French records. Any help for finding more about them or how/where I can search French records online would be greatly appreciated. Key details I have so far:

Domenico Sabini (b. 1852) marries - Maria Catterina Francesca Campomenoso (aged 20) in 1878 in Marseille France.  Maria's father Giovanni Battista Campomenoso is a witness at this wedding and also lives in Marseille at this time.

Thanks in advance.

Have a had look but not come with anything yet - was looking through the register of transcriptions. Through searching for others there are some registers that got damaged and are not available.

Will get back to you if I come up with anything.

So far all the birth and death certificates in Marseille for Santini that I can find have the father as Michel or Jean SABINI. It looks like there must have been family in Marseille. Place of birth stated as Albareto di Borgatoro
Clarkson, Tolladay, Prevost, Killick, Hicks

1901 census
Domenico Sabini was a man born in 1855 in Italy ( Italian Subject ) St Pancras Pt Of. During the 1901 UK Census he was 46 years old and lived in London. He appears as the head of his house in the 1901 UK Census.
LAST NAME:   Sabini
FIRST NAME:   Domenico
MIDDLE NAME:
BIRTH YEAR:   1855
BIRTH PLACE:   Italy ( Italian Subject ) St Pancras Pt Of
COUNTY:   London
AGE:   46
GENDER:   Male
RESIDENCE:   20, Gough St
St Pancras Pt Of, London
HOUSEHOLD MEMBERS:
Domenico Sabini (46, Male)
Maria Sabini (38, Female)
Augusto Sabini (17, Male)

Anna Sabini (6, Female)
Lelizzia Sabini (4, Female)

I could only find this record of Domenico Sabini - AND - his wife is Maria ??  or is it a big coincidence ??  it does say b 1855 - not 1852 as you stated  :)

Hi, yeah they ended up in London, that census is the first real evidence of them arriving from France - the Augusto was born in Paris and the Battista Sabini listed is my Great-Grandfather

Little Italy in Liverpool
Liverpool was the busiest seaport in the world in the 1800's - thousands of Italians came to Liverpool to do marble floors etc - just google Liverpool little italy - can't see Sabini - there is Sabatini - but you might find some interesting reading for yourself  :)  I know the Franchetti family here in Liverpool and they still work all over the UK laying marble floors .

Thanks for the suggestion I'll have a look at Liverpool. Marble floor laying/ marble polisher is on some of the records I've seen for the Sabinis too!

Hi

I remember well that last year there were two or three threads here on rootschat about the same family.
I remember that I found some records in France and many records in Italy on the relevant online archives for you back then.

This is the thread with all my research results:
