In respect of Gavin Fowlie, he showed as a Farm Grieve in 1861 at Kirkton, Reay. In 1871, he is down as Farm Manager at Manos Farm, Stornoway. At the time of his death in 1900, he is a farmer living at  Laxdale Cottage, Stornoway. He died intestate in Inverness on 17 Jan 1900.

Yes, I have all that on Gavin and more -- he's been a lot easier to track down than his son!

Regarding father Peter, there is a shipping manifest entry for him in 1918, last permanent residence showing as Singapore. A Hampstead, London address is given. He shows as living in Hamstead in 1922 (Phone Book) and 1939 Register. So likely settled there for many years?

Thank you! His wife died in 1950 and his surviving son emigrated to Canada. Canadian members of RootsChat kindly investigated him there but were able to find very little, partly because he and his wife had no children.

Wow, that's amazing! Where did you find that? Here is James for comparison ...

Death notices for Peter and his wife Mary Ann below. She shows as having been buried at Western Cemetery, St Andrews Fife. Peter you would think was buried there first?

Certainly a resemblance between Patrick and James  :) Sad, as always, that James died so young.

You can really see the likeness, can't you? James was a brilliant young man who won every prize in his last year at school and was declared 'Dux' which I gather from Scottish informants means he was regarded as the outstanding student of his year. He died acting as the intelligence officer linking two brigades (an extremely responsible role) at the battle of Arras. Thank you for the death notices -- I had Mary but not Peter.
