Wonder if Thring may have been a Charles M Thring, born c1861, Uppingham, who was in 1891 census as a Scholastic Agent.. Same chap in 1901 census as Charles H M Thring. Unmarried in both.

Likely Charles Henry Meredith Thring. Appears in 1871 census with mum Lydia Thring and her Meredith parents.

1897 Westminster rate books has an entry for a  Charles Henry Meredith Thring in Sackville Street. Sackville Street is where Garbbitas and Thring were based.

Possibility for Truman......Sidney A Truman, scholastic agent, in 1911 census at Selwyn Road, New Malden, Surrey.

With parents William and Hannah Truman in Great Marlboro Street, London at 1881. William is a Manufacturing Goldsmith. Hannah's maiden surname, from birth entry for Sidney Arthur Truman, was Button.

Still advertising in 1950s, "TRUMAN KNIGHTLEY LTD., Educational Consultants. Founded 1901.".

Gabbitas and Thring still advertised together in 1960s, as was Truman and Knightley.

Not seeing 1970 entries.

By 1980s, advertising under Gabbitas, Truman and Thring.

So many thanks for all your THRING research.
I now have his father and siblings which is a great help.

John Charles Thring
1824–1909
BIRTH 11 JUN 1824 • Alford, Somerset, England
DEATH 3 OCT 1909 • Dunmow, Essex

The Gabbitas Thring name is one that haunts my childhood memories in the early 1950's so I thought that I needed to discover why.

The little that I know is that my mother had numerous 'paying guests' [school children and students] from overseas along with a raft of new-born infant babies, left with us by weeping Irish girls, to await adoption.

I suspect that these two groups of children may have arrived from two different agencies.
