I didn't find a remarriage for John or marriages for Caroline or William Thomas, and not on any censuses in Ireland or USA, with the possible exception of the marriage of a Caroline in Belfast in 1894 which I don't think is her, even though her father was John and was a labourer. Didn't find any deaths for the three of them.
I suppose I could try Scotland.

Same here thought I had found Caroline Watterson on 1901 census same birth year and place but that was her married name

I did find something interesting. In 1922, Samuel George Buick is travelling to New York, married, age 31, father William James of Derrychrin, Ballinderry Bridge. Has to be right Samuel though Mary is not with him, probably arriving later. Samuel is going to visit his cousin John Mallon in Brooklyn.

Caroline's age is exactly right to be Caroline Watterson born 1876 although I don't recognize the name Martha McKibbon.

In 1923, an Elizabeth Watterson daughter of William T Watterson of  Ballymulderg, was on passenger manifesto as  going to brother-in-law Samuel George Buick at Brooklyn.

Fantastic. Elizabeth is a sister born 1896 to Mary Ann Buick nee Watterson so we are on the right track. But wondering when Mary, Samuel's wife went.
Regarding Caroline Watterson, I did find out the Martha McKnight married James McKibben/McKibbin in 1894 so Martha would be Daniel's sister and they are in the same household in 1901 with Daniel as a widower. Witnesses to Martha's wedding were Daniel McKnight and Caroline Waterson.
