I think that we all have to remember that spelling was not as pedantic in those days as it is now.  Let's face it - a lot of people couldn't read or write, and accents have a lot to answer for. 

But then family history wouldn't be so enjoyable if everything was just what we wanted to find.  ;)
Transcriptions and NBI are merely finding aids.  They are NOT a substitute for original record entries.
Remember - "They'll be found when they want to be found" !!!
