Jeffries Tyler - c.1810 Brixton
« on: Monday 26 April 21 18:12 BST (UK) »
Hi all,

I have Mary Tyler in my tree.  Not a direct ancestor as she is related by marriage, but I have Tylers in my own line, so they do interest me!

Mary and her sister Elizabeth were in the Workhouse in Great Dunmow in 1881.  I believe she then married David Smith on 12th December 1886.

What I have on her family going back is below. I'd like to find out more about father Jeffries Tyler, if possible.

1871
17 Mint Street, Southwark St Geo the Martyr

Jeff Tyler, Head, 61, Lab, Brixton Surrey
Susan Tyler, Wife, 46, Brixton Surrey
Jeff Tyler, Son, 9, Deptford Kent
Emma Tyler, Daughter, 7, Deptford Kent
Mary Tyler, Daughter, 4, Deptford Kent
Elizabeth Tyler, Daughter, 2, Deptford Kent

RG10/602 F44 P4

18th June 1870 - Poor Law Removal - Bethnal Green
Tyler, Jeffery, 60
Tyler, Susan, 45
Tyler, Jeffery, 9
Tyler, Emma, 7
Tyler, Mary, 3
Tyler, Elizabeth, 11 months

Parish removing - Dumow (Dunmow)

Jeffries Tyler married Susanna Smith on 1st July 1860 at St Paul's, Deptford.  Groom's father's name: Jeffries Tyler, Currier.  Bride's father's name:  William Smith, Servant.

Are you looking for any info on the children?

Did Jeffrey die 1880 and Susan 1874

Possibly Jefferie's father's death, the mention on "Dunmow" caught my eye.

Hi John,

Thank you for your replies. I believe that is when Jeffries and Susan died. I haven't researched the children properly yet, but am more interested in going back than forwards.

I didn't have the date for Jeff senior, so that is likely to be a good find.

Thanks again,
Emma

Thanks for your reply. It could well be the right one.

I have my 3rd x Gt Grandmother as Mary Tyler, born in 1818 in Great Dunmow to John Tyler. I'd love to be able to tie them in. I don't have a birth record for John, though.

A Jeffry Tyler of the parish of Dunmow aged 23 joined the sixteenth regiment of foot on the 5th May 1812. This would tally nicely with the death aged 48 in 1837. It appears he married on the 25th May 1811 one year earlier to him joining up. I'm wondering if Jeffrey Junior was born abroad as uk records do not appear to record any births or baptism's to this couple. Wonder where the sixteenth foot were stationed after he joined?

Hi all,

Wonder where the sixteenth foot were stationed after he joined?

This link should hopefully help to answer the above question!: http://www.bedfordregiment.org.uk/history/16thfoothistory.html

If you scroll down to the section headed 'The 16th (the Bedfordshire) Regiment of Foot' as they were known at that time, details of where the regiment were stationed between 1809 & 1876 are shown.

Hope this helps.

Kind regards
