I'm typing this on my laptop!  :D :D The restore worked well, I've checked and all my files are still there.

Thank you for your reassuring advice.  :)

Have you got anything else made by HP, Roobarb?

No, just the laptop and printer. I don't think I'll be buying anything else either!  ;) ;D

My previous laptop was HP.  It was so slow, my 'phone was quicker at downloading emails etc.  I called a computer engineer and he said that for the amount I use it, the hard drive wasn't large enough but that if I changed that, then other things would be out of sync.  It seems it was just a bad design (and for me a bad buy as I'd only had it about 2-3 years).  So I got a new one, went back to Lenovo which my husband usually buys.  We decided to give my old laptop to one of our sons who hasn't got one and just wanted one to play around with.  My husband bought something from Microsoft to put onto the HP laptop (we deleted everything and restored it to factory settings).  Guess what, it wouldn't download it and then just stopped working all together.

We also changed our HP printer to a Canon one, again the previous HP didn't last very long.

I've had no real problems with HP laptops or printers.

We have a large format Canon printer which I bought to replace my large format Epson but I hate it. I wish I'd bought another Epson. My 'everyday' 3 in 1 Canon is fine, as is Mr G's 3 in 1 HP

Every time there's a Windows 10 update our HP printer has a hissy fit, the Lenovo laptop keeps saying the printer is offline,my phone says it's unavailable. Either we have to uninstall & reinstall the printer, or eventually for reasons we don't understand, it sorts itself out.

We had a thoroughly reliable HP printer for years so when it died we got another one.  :-\

Roopat, I too had a very reliable HP printer for years, you think on that basis it's a good idea to buy another one but as we have found to our cost, that's not always the case.  :-\
