So basically what’s happened is I have found out that my dad had a daughter when he lived in Scotland before he married my mum and had me and my siblings I literally have limited information the birth mothers name etc and the address in which they lived at the time I literally keep hitting a brick wall I haven’t got any one else to help obtain any more info and someone had suggested the centres in Scotland. I live very far from Scotland and really struggling where else to go for some information

I would first go to Scotlands People. It's a pay to view (by purchasinf credits) but reasonable and you could do initial searches without using any.

https://www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk/

If you know of the approximate date, Mother's name and area, you could then search the birth records for just females. Also, if you are lucky, she might be recorded under the father's surname.

This might work if you have a reasonable idea of the above parameters.

If all else fails, you could employ a professional researcher?

I have had to do that twice in the past 40 years!
First for records in Jersey. 3xG Grandfather was born there. Family were only there for 5 years.
And second for Railway records at The National Archives.

Both times it was worth the money ;D

Thanks for that, Ruskie  :)

So, if the OP knows the mother's mn, the address/area where the sister was born and the year 1975/6. it would be possible to do some searches of SP to list some possibles.

As it was 1975/6, you'd have to purchase the cert(s) rather than view full details online.  SP has a 100 years rule for births. You can still see outline info, though, without using credits.
