Grooms Place of Residence - Wales
« on: Tuesday 27 April 21 18:27 BST (UK) »
Hi to all

Struggling to read the grooms residence on the attached marriage certificate - I know it was in the parish of Llanelltyd in Wales and it may be "Cy something Bach" - the bride is from Cae'r Tyddyn - they were married in Dolgellau.  Tried looking on old historical maps et al but to no avail.

If anyone could help it would be much appreciated.

TIA

Michelle

Anything of use here?

Could it be a variant spelling of Ceseilgwm bach ?

Ah, it could possibly be - I'm really not familiar with many Welsh place names to be honest - The year before this he was on the 1841 census at Ceseilgwm Mawr and I wondered at first, wishful thinking lol,  if it was an alternative way of spelling that....I shall have a look and see what I can find with Ceseilgwm Bach (which google keeps changing to Cilgwyn Bach)

If you follow the link I gave you above, you'll see they're adjacent in the census, mawr = big, bach = small.

Thank you - I had pinpointed this place before when writing up the 1841 census - do you think it could be the same place, spelled differently?

Yes, I'm now trying to see how they could have spelled it differently a year later  :)
