I started back in 2004 with my family history.  A lot of what you find depends on what is available online and whether you are able to access Record Offices.

In the early days of my research I was able to get to Record Offices, not something that I can do now.

Every so often I have a look through to see if there is anything I want to probe for further information as more records appear online.

I am waiting for access to the 1921 census which will probably trigger more research.  How much I have yet to decide. I know there is one person I am really keen to find in the 1921 to see what is stated as their birthplace.  This lady has been virtually impossible to pin down regarding where she was born.

Ashford: Somerset, London
England: Devon, London, New Zealand
Holdway: Wiltshire
Hooper: Bristol, Somerset
Knowling: Devon, London
Southcott: Devon, China
Strong: Wiltshire
Watson: Cambridgeshire
White: Bristol
Windo - Gloucestershire, Somerset, Wiltshire

Not until all my queries are answered! I started in the 1970s and one of my questions at the time still remains unanswered. And of course since then more have arisen - once you open the floodgates you spend the rest of your life fighting back the waves of further questions.

Oh I used to love going to the Family Records Centre in Clerkenwell and having to heave those ledgers off the shelves. I first went there once thinking the indexes gave DOB but a lady told me I have to send off for the certificate for that.

I went in 2004 on one of several trips there wanting to know about the 1921 census and a man said 18 years until 1921 census, well now just under a year to go.

I started around 1996 when I wanted to know who my grandparents grandparents were.

Exactly PharmaT

At times it feels relentless and I think I will have a break but then curiosity drives me back. One branch of the family has been writing up the family history since the 1700s. Perhaps as they always seem to say in WDYTYA "it's in the genes"  ;)

I totally agree as the Johnny Nash song says-

"There are more questions than answers
Pictures in my mind that will not show
There are more questions than answers
And the more I find out the less I know
Yeah, the more I find out the less I know"

Cheers
