John Charles Le Hurst Wyndham - 1832 to 1886

Hi

I am trying to find information on the above who served in India and was born in Kabul.

He died in Australia. (confirmed by certificate)

I can find no record of him (other than death) - the dates I have are from other peoples trees but have no source records.

I have a FindMyPast sub but can't find him on there.

Any info gratefully received.

There is a probate record on familysearch naming him as a Hop Grower & also a Martha A Wyndham.

Contributors there don't see any connection with India or Afghanistan. He was born either in Ireland or in Berwick on Tweed, circa 1825. Father John was a private in the 2nd Battalion, Rifle Brigade.

Hmmm that is very interesting because I clearly have a wrong connection if that is the case.

Kloumann - is that a UK probate because I couldn't find one?

Shaun J - I was trying to connect him to a possible father (Arthur Wyndham) but it looks like that can't be so.

I was already dubious as his birth date predates Arthurs marriage by 5-6 years.

Firstly thankyou so much Ladyhawk for the detailed info. - it does show that I have a completely false link between John and Arthur Wyndham.

Shaun J that is an amazing discussion going on over at The Genealogist and absolutely confirms the lack of connection between John and Arthur.

John certainly seems to have been a bit of a rogue doesn't he

I don’t know if this will be of any help to you

On the probate/will says John formerly a carpenter, there is a John Charles Wyndham who married in 1847 a Maria Oxley, his occupation joiner, his father John a plumber.  They are on 1851 census with dau Emily and a son age 6mths born Bolton name looks to read Allen possible baptism 1850 Bolton -  maybe a coincidence he has the same name of John Charles Le H Wyndham’s son

John is not with Maria Wyndham on 1861 census dau Charlotte born 1852, father John Charles occ joiner.
Maria is noted as widowed by 1871 she and Charlotte are in the household of Michael Cavannah
two more Wyndham children but I think Michael is their father
