Hi

Trying to find mother of my 4th Great Grandmother Susannah Tatlock (baptised Susey) born in Dale St Liverpool 13/04/1778 to an Edward Tatlock Labourer.

Looks like there were 2 Edward Tatlocks in the area (maybe more) but there is one at Dale St and another at Cunliffe St and they had kids at the same time, no mother on baptism records.

Everyone has Barbara Atherton on their tree but research into Barbara makes me think it isn't.

Barbara & Edward Tatlock rented a farm in Altcar in 1781 on a lease of 3 lives incl a Margaret Tatlock aged 8. Susannah would have been 6 so would have made sense to name her as was youngest at the time.

Also when Barbara died intestate in 1811 her probate record names a Mary Tatlock (b 1790), William Tatlock (b 1785) and a Richard Spring who was Margaret Tatlocks husband. Surely unless disowned or something Susannah would have been part of it??

Noting that ALL family business was done in Liverpool, Susannah ended up in Leigh Lancashire pregnant with an illegitimate child in 1798 and wasnt removed from the parish so had settlement rights which makes me think she probably settled there as a chid or teenager with the correct Edward Tatlock and mother.

Hope anyone can help driving me crazy.

Thanks

Beverley

This is the parish record for the marriage of Edward & Barbara, Edward is noted a Husbandman. A Robert Tatlock was a witness.

There are other marriage records for Edward in Lancashire around the same time on family search, none were Labourers?

Colin
Clarke, Trickett, Orton, Lawless, Norton, Detheridge, Kirby, Goodfellow, Wagstaff, Lowe, etc.

Hi Colin,

Yes, thats Susannah's marriage.

I also cannot find any marriages for an Edward Tatlock who was a labourer.

Thanks

An Edward Tatlock married a Susannah Pinnington by Licence at St Mary, Walton in 1765. The licence says he was a husbandman and a widower.

Probably not the right chap but I thought I'd mention it.
Smith Tiplady Boulton Branthwaite King Miller Woolfall Bretherton Archer and many more

Thanks Emeltom, the family have a history of naming after each other so is a strong possibility. Had a look at the marriage bond, sadly is badly faded but looks like he is a Husbandman on there... could he have downgraded to Labourer after a few years? Also it's a good sign he signed with an X as none of the Tatlocks could write.

Also there was a son Henry born 1776 to Edward Tatlock in Dale St and buried in 1777 in same parish as these 2 were married.. hmmm

Feel like I'm further on with my investigations.

Not sure is Susannah Pinnington now.. there is a long gap between births of the known children I guess this is a mystery that cannot be solved unless more records are found and released.
