Royal Navy Service Record 1870's: Help to interpret, please.
« on: Wednesday 28 April 21 23:07 BST (UK) »
Whilst researching a distant relative I have come across a Royal Navy(?) Service Record:

https://www.ancestry.com/imageviewer/collections/60522/images/43283_adm_188_9-0359

Having no military background or connections, I am having some difficulty interpreting what is in front of me.

George Edward Dodson (b 29 April 1855, Bathford, Somerset) appears to have signed-up on 29 April 1873 for a 10 year engagement.

I do not understand the final entry on his record sheet, being: D. D. followed, possibly by the word Drowned.

It would be helpful if someone familiar with Navy ‘Jargon’ could comment further.

Thankyou.

"D.D." is short for "Discharged Dead"
