Patrick Doyle. Help needed.
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 09:20 BST (UK) »
On doing my family history I found out that my Great grandfather served in the British Army as he is listed as having served in his death cert.  He was born cir. 1918 and died in 1891.  He may of had been from Belfast, as his son, John, also served cir 1886.  How do I search to find any details on my Great grandfather.  Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hello,
I assume you mean he was born 1818  :)
Is this his death ? It helps to place him, although you have mentioned Belfast.

There was an army pension in payment in Belfast from June 1861 to 1883 and possibly beyond to a Patrick Doyle of the 13th Foot.

There are matching discharge papers for a Private Patrick Doyle 1648, born Kilmanna, near Clonaslee, Queens County circa 1820.

He's on the Crimea medal roll.

The above was the nephew of Patrick.  His son, was John Doyle, of 65 Waterford Street, Belfast, Ireland.  My grandfather.  I have his military record.

Who is the nephew?
Do you mean John born 1867 in Stanhope Street (son of Patrick) is the nephew of Patrick?
Or Patrick who married in 1865?

Are the military records re Patrick Doyle any help - or is that the nephew?
