Joseph Hickmons Brookes & Eliza Jane Greenaway Bate & children

I am trying to find out more about my great-grandfather, great-grandmother and their children. Joseph Hickmons Brookes was born to Anne Brookes in 1877. From what I understand Anne Brookes was the illegitimate daughter of a Joseph Hickman and Sarah Brookes. I know the family background of Eliza Jane Greenaway Bate born 1880, but little of Anne Brookes her son Joseph Hickmons Brookes (he died from WWI wounds in 1915?). They appear in the 1911 Census with the following children Mary Ann, Joseph, Sarah (My grandmother), Elizabeth, and David. I do not have any info on the children aside from my late grandmother, unfortunately my mother has passed on so I have little information to go on.

They were married in 1900 in Gornal, Sedgley. Mary Ann Brookes was born 1901, Sarah Ann Brookes, 1902, Joseph Brookes 1905, Elizabeth 1908, David 1910. Joseph's mother Anna Brookes (1859) married David Tomlinson. I am mostly interested in the Brookes' family.

Have you purchased Joseph Hickman Brookes birth certificate or do you have a baptism for him.

From what I understand Anne Brookes was the illegitimate daughter of a Joseph Hickman and Sarah Brookes.

Her marriage in September 1881 to David Tomlinson states her father was Joseph Hickman.

In 1891 David and Annie Tomlinson are living next door to William and Ruth Brookes, are they related

1891 Joseph is down as Tomlinson born c 1877 Lower Gornal.

With is Mother Annie and her Husband.

Marriage indec has her Father as Joseph Hickman.

Thank you so much, you are all so kind. I did an ancestry DNA and somethings did not add up - on my bio Dad's side I am Swedish, Norwegian, Finnish and maybe German Askenazi Jewish. However, I have other than my Midland's heritage, recent Scottish and Irish background, and I think that is possibly the father of Joseph Hickmons Brookes 1877. The other point of interest is what happened to all my great aunts and uncles Mary Ann 1901, Joseph 1905, Elizabeth 1908 and David 1910. I could not find records for them. I am thinking that since they were young when my great grandmother died in 1915 they might have been put into care. My grandmother was working though as a servant.
