Solicitor Supreme Courts Alexander Stevenson
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 10:45 BST (UK) »
In the 1851 Census for Saint Cuthberts Parish in Edinburgh Alexander Stevenson , occupation given as Solicitor Supreme Courts , lived with his wife Mary Consitt Stevenson . Their address was Edin Bank Cottage, Church Lane.I have found a will dated 1877 on line in Wills and Testaments, but no record of either his death or his wifes' death.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as to the deaths of either party,
many thanks,

baird

Register of members of the Society of Writers to HM Signet says
Alexander Stevenson [23 November 1819]. Apprentice to John Forman. Son of Thomas Stevenson, farmer at Gilmerton. Born 1794. Married 17 August 1824 Catherine (died 2 November 1853), second daughter of Andrew White, Glasgow. Died 7 April 1877.

Thankyou very much Forfarian. I think I need to carry out more research as there appears to be two Alexander Stevensons around the same time .Both writers to the Signet. One married to a lady by the name of White and one married to a lady by the name of Consitt.
I think the one I need is the one married to Mary Consitt.
Many thanks and best regards,
Baird

There is no other Alexander Stevenson in the Register of Members of the Society of Writers to H M Signet living later than 1815.

I think this is the death you are looking for

Horsham, Petworth, Midhurst and Steyning Express 17 Feb 1863

On the 11th inst., at Arundel, Alexander Stevenson, Esq., S.S.C., in his 83rd year.

This ties in with the death notice of his son William Balfour Stevenson who predeceased him in 1861 and where he is also shown as Alexander Stevenson, Esq., S.S.C. (S.S.C indicates he was a member of the Society of Solicitors in the Supreme Courts of Scotland).

William
Dent (Haltwhistle and Sacriston), Bell and Jetson (Haltwhistle), Postle, Ward, Longstaff, Purvis, Manners, Parnaby and Hardy (Co. Durham), Kennedy and McRobert (Banffshire), Reid(Bathgate), Watson (Wemyss), Graham (Libberton), Sandilands (Carmichael), Munro (Dingwall)
