Which cemetery would my grandfather be buried in?
« on: Thursday 29 April 21 17:44 BST (UK) »
My grandfather died on 14 December 1933 in Victoria Infirmary.

His name was James McGillivray Fraser.

He was 58 years old, and worked as a Drapery Warehouse Clerk.

My grandparents usual address was 9 Taymouth Street, Glasgow.

How could I find out where he is buried?

Any help will be very much appreciated.

A possibility is Tollcross Cemetery.

Did the family have links to any particular church? Could it have a graveyard attached?

My granny was born in Ullapool, and is first found in Glasgow on the 1901 census. I'm presuming she was sent to live with relatives there after her father died in 1890. leaving her mother with three children to bring up in Ullapool.
My grandfather was born in Dunlichity, Inverness-Shire, and was brought up by his grandmother. He also first appeared in Glasgow on the 1901 census. He probably went there to find work.

Grandfather was born in 1875 and grandmother was born in 1880. I would imagine that they would both have been "wee frees"

Lair register seems to have him buried with a couple of McKenzies

Blimey - I can't believe that you have found this. I'm so thrilled and amazed - words cannot express what I am feeling.

As to the McKenzies - well, my grandmother (James' wife, my granny) is a Mckenzie, so probably they are relations of hers.

More questions to answer  :P

I really can't thank you enough.

Hi
You're welcome.
If you go to the FamilySearch catalogue and look for Glasgow (will come up as Scotland, Lanark, Glasgow), and then select cemeteries from the list, you will find a whole load of records to browse from home.
Good luck with your researches.
John

Heilan Lassie, they lived between Tollcross & Sandyhills so this is a likely kirk in walking distance. Some wouldn't take the tramcar on a Sunday,

Had a gt grannie Christine Mackenzie from Easter Ross who married a Heilan Grant in Glasgow but they were in the Townhead.

Bests,

I've managed to tie in the Mckenzies buried with my grandfather, they are relatives of my Grandmother, Mary Ann Mackenzie.

Could I be really greedy now, and ask if you could identify where my great-grandfather may be buried?
His name was Duncan Mckenzie, and he died on 04 December 1890, at the age of 50, onboard the SS General Gordon, berthed at Springfield Quay. The informant of his death was Annie Mckenzie, stated to be a cousin, living at 220 Broomielaw.
Duncan's usual address on the death certificate was also stated to be 220 Broomielaw, although my great-grandmother lived in Ullapool.
