In 1939 Charles and Edna are living in Barnes, Surrey and Fred birth shown as 21 Dec 1901. In 1947 Edna using her maiden name married Glassford Muir Currie suggesting a possible divorce.
 I can find no deaths for Frederick Charles Stringell  1939-2000.

The 1947 index shows both surnames for Edna.  It means that both her surnames were mentioned on the certificate

Have you located his parents in 1939 and later electoral registers.  Is this his fathers death

There is a also a Frederick C Stringall on electoral registers at 155 Whitfield Street, London W1 in the 1960's.  He is possibly in the Putney area in the 1950's
