Oldohiohome, I found him in a business Directory for New York, 1868-71. It states, plasterer h r 148 Baxter. Can you tell me please what the h and r mean. Many thanks. There is a chance that the listing for a Patrick Reynolds 1873-75 New York Directory, labourer at 283 Mott Street could be him as it’s the same locality.

"h" usually means the person's home is at ...  like either he owns the home or is head of the house, I never figured out which

"r" usually means he resides at ... as in either he doesn't own the home or isn't the head of the house but he lives there, I never figured out which.

I see "r" a lot with grown children who are working but still at home.
