Dance Street, Liverpool
« on: Friday 30 April 21 16:57 BST (UK) »
Hi Does anyone know where Dance Street was located in Liverpool. I have ancestors who died there in 1838 and again in 1843. Try as I might I cannot find this street on old Liverpool maps.

Any help, gratefully received

It doesn't appear to exist does it... there were quite a few people who resided there.  Look at https://www.liverpoolmaritime.org and possibly message them and ask.

I checked a few people on the census and the street doesn't show as 'Dance Street' but subdistrict shows as Dale Street so perhaps near there? I have connections to Liverpool and find that website to be really helpful.

Hope you find out :)

Hi All

A very big thankyou to you all, and for the various links.

I have now found it on my old ordnance survey map from 1906.

Without your help I would never have found it.

Hello,

I have just discovered this site and have read posts submitted by Patricia Houghton in 2021 regarding the location of Dance Street in Liverpool.

My gg grandfather, Robert Hill was born 23 June 1843 at 15 Dance Street. He was the first-born son of Robert Hill and Ellen Molyneux.

I too am having no luck in ascertaining where Dance Street was. I believe it was at some stage renamed Segrave Street, but I have had no luck finding that either.

Please could someone shed some light on this address for me?

Kind regards,

Jenni (Yamba, NSW, Australia)

Hi

Welcome to the forum. The information already posted saying Dance street became Segrave Street is correct here is an 1836 map showing it when it was still Dance Street:-

Hello Blue70 Thank you so much for your very welcome and helpful reply. I do apologise for my mistake in not being able to pick up either Dance or Segrave Streets on links given previously in this thread. Looking at it now, I can clearly see it.
When it was stated that Dance Street became Segrave Street I wrongly assumed that meant it was NOW Segrave Street, but I could not see that on Google maps either. I realise now of course that Segrave Street no longer exists...and that in fact that whole area has changed.  So my question now is...what currently occupies the former site of Dance/Segrave Street? I ask simply because my sister hopes to visit Liverpool next year and I had hoped she may be able to photograph the area for me.
My search continues....

Kind regards,
Jenni

Here's a side by side map with the left map showing Segrave Street and the right map showing the area as it is now. Move the cursor to trace where the street once stood:-
