William was my GGGfather's brother.
« on: Saturday 01 May 21 15:02 BST (UK) »
Well, in fact it may well have been photographed using daylight film under incandescent light (or even candlelight!).  That was a silly thing to do, as presumably the original was in black ink on white paper.  I tried increasing the contrast and saving as a grey-scale image, but the result was less legible: I'm no expert!

Would someone be able and willing to clean it up, removing (if possible) the writing that shows through from the other side of the paper?

William was my GGGfather's brother.

Apologies for this - but perhaps purchase of the marriage certificate may have a better result.  :'(

This is an image from the original parish register, so 164 years old.

Personally I'd much prefer to have this image, even as it stands.   :-X

And, with the greatest respect to japeflakes, I'd still prefer the original.

My apologies, again, japeflake.  If wee Hugh wants a clean up, then so be it!

No skills here regarding image restoration, but this image (which is reasonably clear) can be obtained via ancestry.

I suspect that its been resized and compressed (and converted to .gif from .jpg) which has made it difficult to read.

I won't post the image as I am sure to fall foul of the rules regarding copyright, but if WeeHugh has access to ancestry this is the link

I agree with BB, it's an historical document and looks fine the way is, but the choice is yours.
