He doesn't appear to have been baptised at High Bray. However, an Elizabeth DAVY was baptised at High Bray 1 March 1829, dau of Henry & Prudence, father a labourer. The 1841 census shows the family living in nearby Swimbridge:
Henry   Davey   Male   40
Prudence   Davey   Female 40
Elizabeth   Davey   Female 11
Henry   Davey   Male   7

Whether or not this is your family with a spelling variant, I can't tell. By 1851 they were living in Plymouth with dau Elizabeth now married to a William SHIDDICK. Father Henry and son Henry both described as railway labourers.

Have you obtained the marriage certificate between your Henry DAVIES & Margaret? It will give his father's name and occupation.

thank you both so much!

I'm new to all of this, father's name on my 2nd GG's marriage cert. is John Davies (deceased), I seem to be exploring every Davies family in that area with a baby John in 1860/1.

I'm not even sure he's the person I'm looking for but he appeared on a census I saw while trying to find the father of my 2nd great grandfather, John Davies, Ystrad.  (1860 - 17 Jan 1901).

There's a young John Davies living with his grandparents in 1871 and after trying different families, I came back to that one, then went back to see where the grandparent's daughters were in 61 which led me to find Margaret and Henry.

I found one marriage registry entry for a Henry and Margaret Davies in Denbighshire in April 1859 but haven't found a certificate yet, I worry I'm at risk of trying to hammer in puzzle pieces to make it work so wanted a bit more information about Henry to rule him out

thanks again!

This is becoming somewhat complicated since you don't even know if this is 'your' man anyway.

Why not start at the beginning - when and where did your man marry, to whom, where was he in 1891?

With a name like Davies you need a positive start and not go grabbing at straws!

Barnstable is about  10 miles from High Bray, but Exeter is 40 miles from High Bray.

There is no birth registration for a John Davy but there are lots for John Davies mmn Davies.
I didn`t find a baptism on Ancestry either.
If it is the right family then you need to find a death for Margaret that matches her age.
Also as Henry could write why was his name entered as Davies.
