Problem with Ancestry record
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 11:20 BST (UK) »
I am trying to locate a burial for my relative John DANIEL(S), who died on22 Dec 1902 in Hackney. Not having any luck, I attempted to find a burial for his wife Gertrude Elizabeth, who died shortly after him on 21 Feb 1903.

A search on Ancestry using England and Scotland Select Cemetery Registers 1800-2016 revealed a burial for her in Chingford Mount Cemetery on 26 Feb 1903 in Section G10, Grave 61777 and internment 61866. The transcript gives very little detail than that quoted above, so I wanted to find an image.

As it happens the same England and Scotland Select Cemetery Registers 1800-2016 allows you to look at the actual registers, which are incredibly detailed. Trouble is when I look in these registers I can't locate the entry for Gertrude, nor an earlier one for John. Now John might well have been buried elsewhere, but surely Gertrude should be in the register?

I have looked at the entries for 26 Feb 1903 in the 1902-1903 register to no avail. Am I looking in the wrong place? Any suggestions or insights?

Might be worth looking for a funeral notice in the newspapers in case that gives a location.

I have tried the Newspaper section on FindMyPast, again to no avail.

There are some pages missing from the online register.
image 127/272 Thursday 26th February 1903 is page 144
image 128/272 Friday 27th February 1903 is page 149

Good spot, so presumably she is on the missing images assuming that there was any content on those pages.

Sadly, doesn't help with the search for John's burial, which I would have assumed was at the same place - if not the same grave - given the short time gap between their deaths.

I think I might write to Waltham Forst Council, who must hold the original registers.

Pages 30 and 31 are also missing which cover 23 December.

There are actually quite a few pages that have been missed.  They ARE there as you can see the page numbers showing through, they just haven't been included.

This is very annoying. As well as writing to Waltham Forest who I understand have the originals, I will also moan to Ancestry.
