Thank you for the death info on Elizabeth Hurl. Mary Jane Steele nee Watterson had parents James Watterson and Margaret Hurl and Margaret's parents were John Hurl and Nancy Quigley which I think is probably the same person as Nancy Quilly at Elizabeth's death, which confirms her as an aunt to Mary Jane. Hard to keep  everyone straight.

Getting back to the obit of Henry James Watterson. It mentions brothers Isaac and Stewart so I am presuming they had also emigrated to Philadelphia. I have 12 siblings for Henry James.
I shall look for them.

Can't say I came across the two brothers.  They are not listed on FIND A GRAVE at
Woods Chapel Church of Ireland Graveyard Magherafelt, County Londonderry as is mother, father, brother Stephen and sister Annie.

Can you get an exact birth date for Elizabeth Watterson 1898 - the one that returned home to 2095 Nostrand Avenue in 1927 ?

I remember looking at Joseph Watterson, thought we had covered him yesterday but quick glance couldn't see anything on this thread. Joseph  born - 20 April 1904 (arrived with Henry James Watterson - saw a photograph of him on an ancestry tree this morning) 23 Feb 1927.  Its all familiar, perhaps it was on the other thread.  So better twice than not at all perhaps !!
(Henry James married 4 March 1932 Philadelphia PA - Marriage License Number 611103)

On the passenger list he was going to an Aunt Anne Angus, did you find her ?

1940 census East 56th Street

Joseph Watterson   36   Head
Gladys Watterson 30   Wife  (was Gladys Emily Pelling)
Daughter "M" Watterson 1 month Daughter.

Gladys Pelling - Marriage License Date 11 Oct 1939 Manhattan, New York City, New York.
Spouse Joseph Watterson - License Number 14965

Elizabeth who was returning to 2095 Nostrand in 1927 had dob Mar 18, 1896. Birth registered under Fanny. On one record, I saw that Elizabeth was returning to that address to her cousin Miss Mary Watterson but I haven't figured out who Mary is nor did I find either Elizabeth or Mary at that address at any time. Just now reviewing another post of mine, I had found the marriage of  Mary L. Watterson May 17, 1932 to Francis M. Doran. I wonder if that would be her cousin but I don't have the birth of Mary L. or her parents. If Mary L. turns out to be a cousin to Elizabeth, her father must be either Robert or John.
I did not find Isaac or Stewart Watterson in USA, nor I have found Joseph's aunt Anne Angus, despite much looking.
I did not realize Woods was on findagrave. Could be very helpful to me. Looking at the headstone erected by William R. Watterson, I was confused at first but read it more carefully. William Robert was the son of William James Watterson and Margaret Jane Davis and he erected the stone to his parents. And Stephen and Annie were William Robert's children which I didn't have as yet.
I have not found Benjamin Watterson or his wife Martha after their emigration in 1895. Maybe he didn't stay, only visiting. I didn't find Benjamin's marriage to Martha either which I presume was before emigration.
Thanks again for all your wonderful help.

There are a number of Elizabeth with a birth date 18 March 1896 but so far nothing showing under a married name in New York.

Isaac and Stewart Watterson do not seem to have immigrated to the USA, might be better to ask about them in Ireland.

Mary Watterson who married Francis Doran was born New York according to the 1940 census and Pennsylvania according to the 1930 and 1920 census. Her mother was Nora (McNamara) Hendry.

There is a private ancestry tree for Benjamin Watterson born 21 February 1870 - part of the owners name includes "Hurl" - might be worth you trying to contact the owner. Lives in Ontario
