Finding an address on the 1939 Register
« on: Sunday 02 May 21 22:42 BST (UK) »
I was trying to locate an address on the 1939 Register. My mother was evacuated to a village called Great Horwood in Buckinghamshire in WWII from 1940-1942. She can't recall the name of the family she lived with but remembered that it was a farm. I thought I'd show all the pages of Great Horwood from the 1939 Register to look for any farms and see if any of the names rang a bell. However it seems to be impossible to locate the village on the register. Can anyone help.

I can't help with that, but I did stumble across an interesting website about Great Horwood, which includes a page that mentions a farm or two:

Looking at Google maps, I noticed one present day farm called "Piglet's Bottom". I suspect that is not what it was known as in the 1940s!

I wonder if it could be Winslow.

I looked at 1939 for Winslow - several farms etc and matched a couple up with a search.

Just search for George W. BARFOOT born 1877 living in Winslow and you will get the first page of Great Horwood, identified by the street and road names.
